The UGC NET Phase 1 Exam was held from 13th June to 17th of June 2023. The exam for Phase II is scheduled to take place between 19th and 22nd of June 2023.

UGC NET Full Form

NTA stands for National Testing Agency, which is the full name of the National Testing Agency. It conducts national examinations on behalf of UGC (University Grants Commission).

NTA UGC NET 2023 Notification & Exam date

UGC NET Exam Date 2023 Out: UGC NET also known as NTA UGC NET exam is annually conducted in the National Testing Agency (NTA) to assess the eligibility of applicants for Assistant Professorships and Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges. The NTA intends to conduct UGC NET 2023 December Exam between the 06th and 22nd of December 2023. It is the NTA UGC NET exam is held twice during the months of June and December each year. There is a possibility to conduct the UGC NET examination twice a year. National Eligibility (NTA) will conduct the UGC NET in 2023 (December 2023) session to fill the position as Assistant Professor, and junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to be filled by the Indian Govt. Universities and Colleges.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2024

The notification about the UGC NET eligibility criteria December 2023 is expected to be released during the month of September in 2024. It will provide the latest updates on the eligibility requirements.

1) Age Eligibility 

You must be under 31 years old on the 1st of the month that the UGC NET JRF Exam Registration Process would be completed, i.e. 01.03.2024. (This applies only to the current examination).

There is no age limit for assistant professorships (AP).

2) Educational Qualification for UGC NET (General) 

• Candidates must have a minimum 55% mark in their Master's degree OR equivalent examination in Humanities, Social Science (including languages), Computer Science & Applications and Electronic Science.

• If you are a candidate from SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender category, then the minimum score to be obtained is 50% marks.

UGC NET Syllabus 2024

The syllabus for UGC NET comprises of two papers: 

• Paper 1

UGC NET 2024 Exam Pattern

UGC NET Exam consists of two papers, as mentioned earlier. The first paper is a general/common paper and the second paper is a topic-specific paper.

There is no break in between the two papers, so the time allocated to complete the two papers is 3 hour. The candidate is responsible for managing his time accordingly between the two papers.

Candidates are advised to spend more time on Paper 2 than Paper 1 because it contains more questions.

The marking scheme does not include negative marking for either paper.

The exam pattern of both papers is different

• Paper 1 is the same for everyone and has 50 questions.

The second paper is and has a total 100 questions.

UGC NET Exam Centre

Candidates for UGC NET exam must carefully select the exam centre as the centre is specified in the admit card.
